A Short AutobiographyI was born in the coastal city of Maracaibo, Venezuela on July 12th,17 years ago. My parents immigrated to the United States when I was about two years old and I had to leave behind a big part of my family.
The environment was completely different. Instead of being surrounded by the sea, mountains took the place of water. I had to take on the challenge of making new friends as well as learning how to write, read, and speak English. Since I was pretty young learning English came to me pretty fast, but making friends was an entirely different story. Due to work complications my parents would often have to transfer me out of my current school, so it wasn't until the second grade that I finally had time to form concrete friendships. That first year was tough though because bullying led me into problematic situations. The next year however I became a lot more engaged in my learning, with the incentive of going to Mill Hollow ( a great summer camp). My standards for myself were a lot higher and during this time I became interested in reading as well as figure skating. In fifth grade I started to play the violin as well and then my aunt started to teach me how to dance Flamenco. For a time everything was alright but then bullying slowly crept back into my life which led me to fall into a state of depression for a few years. It was then that I was admitted into the Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science were I became more involved with medicine and science through the Future Doctors program, HOSA, and the Service through science club. This year I was admitted to the University of Utah but there's still a lot for me to do before graduating from AMES. |
