Critical ThinkingThe following paper is the third essay that I wrote for my U of U Writing Class. The assignment was to write a story about two people who get into an argument about a topic, while not letting either one of them win their side. The topic that I had them argue about was about whether or not there should be a dress code in public schools.
This assignment really fits in with this DRSL for several reasons. First of all the process of creating this story took a lot of thought. I had to think about how I could get these two people to meet up and suddenly have an argument without making the story feel choppy. Besides the fluidity of the story line, I also had to think about my characters and their ideals. I had to look at both sides of the argument and really make them equal as I wrote. Lastly, I had to think of an effective way to end the essay without either side winning the argument. I really liked working on the assignment because the research that I had to do for it ended up changing my personal opinion on the dress code. This was just another reminder of how important it is to really look at another person's perspective and it was great to work it into the story.
