Quote Reflection
"Fear doesn't shut you down. It wakes you up."
-Divergent, Veronica Roth
This is a very simple quote from an unfortunately doomed book series that I was a fan of for a very long time. When I was a freshman it was the first quote that I had thought to share with others in my biology class, but at the time it didn't have as much meaning to me as it does now. In context, it is just used to describe a character that proved to be dauntless in her own way, however the meaning that is interred in the words is a bit more complex to me.
I've found that in the past four years I've developed from being an incredibly timid girl who would often avoid difficulties to someone who is willing to take action. How this came to be took a lot of effort but the thought process shown in the quote is part of what has helped me do a lot of these things.
I've been faced with many events that have tested my courage, but I haven't let their grip on me drag me down into complete despair. Instead of viewing these moments as hurdles that I can't go through, I've instead decided to face them head on like a simple challenge. I've used that fear that I had to actually take control of those situations, and this is a lesson that I know for sure I'll keep on using in the future.
